My passion for photography actually emerged through my interest in entomology (the study of insects). With the help of a camera and a macro lens, I was finally able to capture the beauty of insects in all their fascinating details forever, without having to kill an animal.

In 2020, I didn’t have my own camera yet, so I grabbed the old family camera. It was a Sony DSC HX400V bridge camera. This camera doesn’t have an interchangeable lens mount, so there was no way to attach a macro lens.

However, there are macro lenses (such as the Raynox 250) that can be attached to almost any camera, provided it has a somewhat longer focal length. So, I got myself such a macro lens and started experimenting with it in the garden.

My very first photo taken with a camera was a macro shot.

Here are a few of my earliest pictures that I took back in the summer:

I experimented a lot and learned a great deal about photography in general, macro photography techniques, composition, lighting, and the world of insects and arachnids. Then, I made a decision:

I would delve deeper into the subject, and to have more options regarding lens choices and image editing, I wanted to purchase my very own camera.
